Cowley College Selected as Top 200 Aspen Prize Finalist for Community College Excellence

ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. — Cowley College has been named one of the top 200 community colleges in the nation for the 2027 Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the Aspen Institute announced Friday.

The recognition highlights the college's strong student outcomes and continued leadership in higher education, according to a college announcement.

"Another milestone for Cowley College!" the college stated in its announcement. "Proud to build on our 2021 Aspen candidacy achievement!"

The Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence is awarded every two years and recognizes institutions demonstrating exceptional student outcomes in four areas: learning, completion, employment and earnings, and equitable outcomes for students of color and low-income students.

Being selected as a top 200 finalist builds on Cowley's previous recognition as an Aspen Prize candidate in 2021.

The Aspen Institute will narrow the field to 10 finalists in spring 2026, with the winning colleges announced in spring 2027. Prize awards range from $1 million for the grand prize winner to $100,000 for finalists with distinction.

Cowley College serves students across south-central Kansas with campuses in Arkansas City and Winfield.
