Community meal sharing program opens January registration in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The People's Table, a community-led project operated by Hutch in Harmony and Wisdom in Motion, has opened registration for its January Community Cook & Share event.

The program includes two components: a bulk meal drop-off Friday, Jan. 23, at Living Hope FWB, 735 E. 5th Ave., and meal delivery and organization pickup Saturday, Jan. 24.

Participants may drop off meals in aluminum pans or containers that do not need to be returned. Volunteers from Hutch in Harmony and Wisdom in Motion will help ensure meals reach families, elders, caregivers and neighbors.

The organization, a non-governmental organization based in Hutchinson, facilitates sharing meals, recipes and care through community participation.

Each month, community members prepare homemade bulk meals while youth from Wisdom in Motion cook a featured dish through their International Cooking Class. Volunteers then deliver the meals throughout Hutch.

Those interested may sign up to cook and drop off a meal, submit a recipe to the community cookbook, request a meal for themselves or someone in need, or join the organization's private mutual aid group for ongoing community support.

The People's Table describes every dish as "an act of love" and aims to provide warmth, nourishment and care across the community.
