Community Event to Address Food Insecurity in Reno County

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A community discussion on food insecurity in Reno County will be held Aug. 11 at the HRMC Pavilion as part of the First Course initiative.
The lunch event, scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. at 1701 E 23rd Ave., will feature a presentation by Jason Probst, Extension Agent for Family and Community Wellness, according to organizers.
The discussion will cover who food insecurity affects in Reno County, what it looks like in the community, and what resources are available to help address the issue. The presentation will also include data on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and highlight food resources available locally.
Lunch will be provided to attendees, though seating is limited for the event.
Registration is required and can be completed by scanning a QR code or visiting hutchregional.com/firstcourse, according to the announcement.
The First Course series appears to be an ongoing initiative focused on community wellness and support topics.
Food insecurity, defined as limited or uncertain access to adequate food due to lack of money or other resources, affects communities across Kansas and nationwide.
