City of Hutchinson, Interfaith Housing team up to repair sidewalk, improve access for resident With Disability

HUTCHINSON — The City of Hutchinson and Interfaith Housing & Community Services, Inc. have partnered to repair a stretch of sidewalk near F and Elm streets, combining resources to improve pedestrian access in the neighborhood ahead of a new home being built for a resident living with a disability.

Interfaith Housing, which is constructing a new home on a vacant lot in the area, approached the city about assisting with nearby concrete work to ensure safe sidewalk access to the property. City officials were already evaluating sidewalk conditions in the area, making the collaboration a natural fit.

The project underscores the impact local government and nonprofit organizations can achieve when they work together. What began as a request for safe access to a single home resulted in a wider sidewalk improvement that benefits the entire community.
