Hays Annual Fall Cleanup Set to Begin Monday Morning

HAYS, Kan. — The City of Hays will begin its annual Fall Cleanup at 7 a.m. Monday, with crews making only one pass through the city and enforcing a strict 10-minute time limit per residence to serve all households. Solid Waste Superintendent Joe Billinger emphasized that residents must properly sort materials into four required categories — construction and demolition debris, tree limbs and brush, white goods and metals, and municipal waste — and place items at the proper pickup location by the Monday morning deadline. The city will not collect tires, hazardous waste, batteries, or medical waste, and any items remaining after the time limit will be the property owner's responsibility to remove. Residents are advised to clearly tag or move any "treasured items" like yard art away from refuse piles to avoid accidental collection, and an additional 10 minutes will be allowed specifically for tree limb and brush collection.
