City of Hays Sets October 20 Start Date for Annual Fall Cleanup

HAYS — The City of Hays will begin its 2025 Annual Fall Cleanup on Monday, Oct. 20, providing residents an opportunity to dispose of bulky items not collected during regular weekly trash service. Residents must place sorted items at their regular pickup location no earlier than Oct. 17 for pickup starting at 7 a.m. on Oct. 20, with city crews conducting a single comprehensive sweep through all neighborhoods without following a set schedule. Items must be separated into four distinct piles: construction and demolition debris (maximum 5 pallets), tree limbs and brush (6-inch diameter maximum, 12-foot length limit), white goods and metals including appliances, and municipal waste such as furniture and mattresses. The cleanup will not accept tires, hazardous materials, batteries, medical waste, or general yard waste, which must be handled through the city's compost site or yard waste tag program. Solid Waste Superintendent Joe Billinger emphasized the cleanup as a partnership to maintain community beauty and safety before winter, encouraging residents to visit https://www.haysusa.com/303/Annual-Fall-Cleanup for complete guidelines and sorting instructions.
