Bullpups Shine at Hesston Varsity Invitational

HESSTON, Kan. — The McPherson varsity boys and girls track and field teams competed Thursday at the Hesston Varsity Invitational, with the boys finishing second and the girls taking fourth in a meet that doubled as key regional preparation. Freshman Kinnick Anderson was named Outstanding Male Athlete of the meet after winning both the long jump and triple jump, making him the third consecutive McPherson male athlete to earn the honor, joining Caleb Muehler (2024) and Matt Burger (2025). On the girls side, senior Elley Paulsen broke into the 16-second range in the 100-meter hurdles with a 16.57, a personal record that ranks her in the top 10 in Class 4A, while junior Amara Dossett and senior Adri McLeod both cracked the 12-second barrier in the 100 meters with times of 12.89 and 12.91, respectively, placing them both in the top 20 in 4A. Junior Ashton Malm posted a 10.79 in the 100 meters on the boys side, a mark that places him in the top three in the state. Other scoring finishes for the girls included Karsen Burris second in the javelin, Brynn Littlejohn third in the shot put, Cayla Weimer third in the high jump and sixth in the triple jump, McLeod third in the 200 meters, the 4x100 relay team of Dossett, McLeod, Wyssmann and Wilson third, and the 4x400 relay team of Wyssmann, Prescott, Sandbo and Solofra third. On the boys side, Caleb Muehler won the 800 meters with teammates Tripp Pelzel (second) and Kayden Friesen (third) joining him on the podium, while Caden Wenderott took second in the discus, Daniel Bowen finished third in the 400 meters, and Muehler added a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters.
