Bullpups Shine at Abilene Varsity Invitational
McPherson's boys and girls combined for 68 personal records at Abilene.
ABILENE, Kan. — The McPherson varsity boys and girls track and field teams combined for 68 personal records at the Abilene Varsity Invitational, with the boys finishing second overall behind No. 2-ranked Wamego in Class 4A and the girls placing seventh.
The boys 4x100 relay team of Jayren Stutzman, Brody Hoffman, Kinnick Anderson and Ashton Malm won the event with a 42.86, the fastest time in 4A this season, while the 4x100 Relay team of Mason Miller, Dylan Hall, James Fritzemeier and Caden Wenderott also took first; Malm also swept the 100m, with Stutzman finishing second and Brody Hofman third, and Malm was joined in the top five by the sprint crew that went 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the 100m.
Wenderott set a personal record in the discus with a throw of 161 feet, 7 inches to win the event and rank third in 4A, senior Caleb Muehler ran a 4:18.73 in the 1600m — just .19 off the school record — to finish fourth, and the 4x800 team of Kayden Friesen, Tripp Pelzel, Daniel Bowen and Nathan Friesen took second, with Kayden Friesen also finishing third in the 800m and second in the 3200m alongside Muehler.
Junior Brynn Littlejohn won the shot put with a personal-record throw of 35 feet, 4 inches, senior Karsen Burris threw a season-best 121-11 in the javelin to place third, Andi Buschbom took second in the long jump with a season-best 17-5 that ranks fifth in 4A, and the girls 4x400 team improved its time by six seconds to sit fifth in 4A.
