MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson High School Bullpups soccer team advanced to the 4A-1A Regional Championship with a commanding 5-0 victory over Coffeyville Tuesday evening. Senior Manny Morales led the offensive charge with four goals, including a hat trick in the first half, while teammate Yahir Valadez added the fifth goal in the second half.

Morales opened the scoring in the first half with an assist from Grayson Broadus, then quickly added a second goal assisted by Valadez. The senior striker completed his hat trick with help from Jackson Martin, then scored his fourth goal of the night on another assist from Valadez. Valadez capped the scoring with an unassisted goal to complete the 5-0 rout. McPherson finished with eight shots on goal, while goalkeeper Gabe Standfast made seven saves to preserve the clean sheet.

Despite challenging weather conditions that included shifting winds and intermittent rain and hail showers, the Bullpups controlled the match from early on and never allowed Coffeyville to threaten. Head coach Chris Adrian noted that while the team didn't play their best soccer, they "took care of business" and kept all players healthy heading into the regional final. The Bullpups will now travel to Independence on Thursday to face the tournament's No. 2 seed for the regional championship.
