Bullpups Advance to State with Dominant Sub-State Performance

The McPherson varsity volleyball team earned a trip to the state tournament Saturday with a dominant Sub-State performance, sweeping both Ulysses and Wellington in straight sets.

The Bullpups opened Sub-State play with a convincing 25-10, 25-10 victory over Ulysses before defeating Wellington 25-19, 25-18 to claim the Sub-State championship and secure their spot at the state tournament.

Brooke Doile led the offensive attack with 15 kills, while Ava Romero added 13 kills and Elley Paulsen contributed 12. Setter Rylie Whitfield orchestrated the offense with 47 assists throughout the two matches and added three aces on the service line.

The Bullpups' serving proved to be a weapon, with Romero, Whitfield, and Paulsen each recording three aces. McPherson dominated the opening match against Ulysses, winning both sets by 15 points to advance to the Sub-State championship.

Wellington provided a tougher challenge in the championship match, but the Bullpups controlled both sets to secure the sweep. Romero led the defensive effort with 14 digs, while Doile added 12 digs and Adelyn Barrow contributed nine.

At the net, Paulsen recorded two blocks, with Whitfield and Romero each adding one block. The balanced team performance carried McPherson to back-to-back victories and a berth in the state tournament.
