HUTCHINSON, Kan.— Hutchinson High School's Salthawks boys basketball team faced off against the Buhler High School Crusaders in a Reno County matchup at the Salthawk Activity Center on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
The Buhler Crusaders entered the night undefeated, while the Hutchinson Salthawks were still seeking their first victory of the season.
The game started with the Salthawks jumping to an early lead. The offense, successfully executing the passing game and feeding drives to the basket, allowed Hutchinson to jump out to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Crusaders responded in the second quarter by tightening their defense and shooting accurately from beyond the arc. The Salthawks had a slim 26-24 lead at halftime.
The second half was a physical back-and-forth struggle. The game stayed close with Hutchinson taking a 64-62 lead with under five seconds remaining, setting the stage for one final possession.
The Crusaders threw the entry pass to midcourt, where the shooter was able to convert a 3-pointer as the clock expired, giving Buhler a 65-64 victory.
The Hutchinson Salthawks will be in action next week before the Christmas break. They will host the Haysville Campus Colts at the Salthawk Activity Center on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025.
