Sign up freeBuhler school district officials presented proposed student screen-time guidelines that the board has not adopted, reported enrollment up about 20 students and welcomed new board member Thomas Watts on Monday, Oct. 12.
Screen-time proposal
Kyle McClure and Paul Erickson shared a proposed Instructional Technology Framework with the board, according to the district's published board briefs.
The board took no vote on it, and the briefs do not list specific limits or say when the board might act.
Enrollment
Erickson shared preliminary enrollment data from the official count day set by the Kansas State Department of Education. The briefs say total enrollment is up about 20 students from last year, with the elementary growth the district had anticipated showing up especially in kindergarten.
Board and leadership
The board welcomed Watts, who will serve the remainder of the Position 7 term.
Superintendent Cindy Couchman is out on medical leave, and board member Tim Lackey thanked Shane Hecox, McClure and Erickson for filling in while she is away. Hecox congratulated Couchman on being named a Superintendent of the Year finalist, a recognition the district plans to celebrate in November.
Buildings
Hecox reported that a survey crew from Baughman has finished its survey at PCE, with a report expected by the board's next regular meeting, Monday, Nov. 9, at the Burkholder Administrative Center.
Earlier in the meeting, Kevin Bohling of the Plum Creek PTO urged the district to do playground work at PCE and said the PTO is committed to helping with money and parent volunteers.
With no students in buildings Oct. 12, crews replaced a rooftop unit at PHMS and part of the UV gym roof.
Other business
The district no longer has a liaison with Horizons, so school counselors have taken on much of that work, Erickson reported in an update from the Mental Health Intervention Team. According to the briefs, case numbers are increasing and the district considers its partnership with Horizons strong.
