Commissioners mourn loss of firefighter killed in line of duty
DODGE CITY, Kan. — The Ford County Commission opened its meeting by addressing the line-of-duty death of firefighter and emergency medical services provider William Cory "Liam" Price. Price died April 19, 2026, following a medical emergency experienced on the job. The commission offered official condolences on behalf of the county to Ford County Fire & EMS and the Price family for their loss.
County denies permit for Dodge City towing business
DODGE CITY, Kan. — Commissioners unanimously rejected a conditional use permit for a repossession, towing and vehicle storage business proposed for 801 Lulu Ave. in Dodge City. The board approved Resolution No. 2026-14 to officially deny the permit for Garcia Recovery, following a recommendation for rejection from the Ford County Zoning Board. The business may submit a new application in one year.
Community fitness event and running events approved
DODGE CITY, Kan. — A special event permit to host SW Kansas Fit Fest 2026 alongside a 5K and 10K run was unanimously approved by the commission. Planning and Zoning Director Melissa Drake presented the application, allowing the community fitness events to proceed on legally designated county property.
