8th-Grade Girls Volleyball Bullpups Go 4-0 at Triangular
McPherson sweeps Wellington and Clearwater to stay perfect on the season.
MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Middle School eighth-grade girls volleyball team went 4-0 Saturday, sweeping both Wellington and Clearwater in a home triangular to push the A team's record to 10-0 and the B team's to 8-2. The A team rallied past Wellington 25-11, 23-25, 15-8 after experimenting with new positions before closing out Clearwater in straight sets, 25-14, 25-13, with Elin Schmidt recording five kills against Wellington and Cali Melton adding three blocks, while Hayden Vogelsberg was "again clutch from the service line," according to coach Christine Pianalto. The B team dominated both opponents — defeating Wellington 25-22, 25-21 and Clearwater 25-10, 25-8 — with coach Brittany Baum crediting the group's commitment to playing "McPherson volleyball, always sending the ball over in three" regardless of the situation.
