8th Grade Bullpups Capture Valley Center Invitational Title
McPherson volleyball team goes undefeated in three-match championship run
VALLEY CENTER – The McPherson Middle School 8th grade volleyball team capped off a dominant tournament performance by claiming first place at the Mid-Season B-Team Volleyball Invitational hosted by Valley Center Middle School on Tuesday.
The Bullpups (12-1) swept through the competition with convincing victories over Derby (21-9, 21-7) and Maize (21-12, 21-17) before battling past Hutchinson in a thrilling three-set championship match, 21-16, 18-21, 15-8.
"Today was a great day for the Bullpups," said head coach Ally Lusk. "We were in control against Derby and Maize at all times. We served well and many girls played well at the net."
The championship match against Hutchinson showcased the team's resilience and determination. After winning the opening set and dropping a close second set, the Bullpups regrouped for the decisive third set.
"In the championship game against Hutch, the girls hustled like crazy," Coach Lusk noted. "We had girls getting net balls and making big plays. We won the first, lost the second in a close one, and battled back as a team for 1st."
The tournament victory continues an outstanding season for the 8th grade Bullpups, who have now won 12 of their 13 matches while displaying the teamwork and competitive spirit that has defined their championship campaign.
