7th Grade Bullpups Battle Back for Third Place at Hutchinson Invite
McPherson overcomes 11-point deficit in dramatic comeback victory over Valley Center
HUTCHINSON – The McPherson Middle School 7th grade volleyball team showcased remarkable resilience Tuesday, claiming third place at the B Team Volleyball Invitational hosted by Hutchinson Middle School after a dramatic comeback victory in the consolation match.
The Bullpups (9-6) dominated pool play with victories over Maize Middle School (25-14, 19-25, 15-13), Valley Center (25-11, 22-25, 15-10), and Derby North (25-11, 25-17) to advance as pool winners. However, bracket play proved challenging as McPherson fell to Maize South in straight sets, 10-25, 16-25. The team's character shone brightest in the third-place match, where they battled back from an 11-point deficit to defeat Valley Center 25-13, 25-20.
"I'm extremely proud of the perseverance and grit of these girls," said head coach Amelia Broadfoot. "They continue to grow each and every day. During the 3rd place match against Valley Center we battled back from an 11 point deficit to win!" The team will look to build on this momentum when they travel to Winfield on Monday, September 29.
