School board adjusts Chromebook repair fees, citing updated costs

WINFIELD, Kan. - The Winfield Board of Education on Wednesday approved a new schedule of fees for student Chromebook repairs, with some costs increasing while several others will decrease for families. The most significant change is the cost of a full device replacement, which will increase from $175 to $250 effective Aug. 1, 2026. Several common repair fees were reduced, effective Oct. 30, 2025, including screen repair (from $95 to $50), outer casing repair (from $45 to $35) and charger replacement (from $25 to $15). The cost for a keyboard repair will increase slightly from $25 to $30. The board approved the new fee structure.


Lowell Elementary staff highlights student success, school culture

WINFIELD, Kan. - Lowell Elementary School staff and students provided the Board of Education with an overview of the school’s programs and achievements during a building report Wednesday. Principal Janci Ramirez, along with several teachers and students, detailed the school’s use of the “Capturing Kids’ Hearts” program to build a positive school culture. The presentation included a summary of current student assessment data, of which Ramirez said the Lowell staff is “extremely proud.” The report concluded with an invitation for board members to visit a kindergarten classroom as guest readers.


District hires new athletic trainer for Winfield High School

WINFIELD, Kan. - A new athletic trainer has been hired for Winfield High School, following board approval Wednesday. The hiring fills an open position at the high school and was included in the personnel report on the board’s consent agenda.


Winfield Middle School names new golf coach

WINFIELD, Kan. - A new boys and girls golf coach for Winfield Middle School was approved at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday. The coaching assignment was listed on the certified personnel report, which the board approved without discussion as part of its consent agenda.
