SALINA, Kan. — Salina Public Schools received an unmodified, or “clean,” opinion on its fiscal year 2025 audit, indicating sound financial practices and record-keeping. Harold K. Mayes Jr., CPA, of Agler & Gaeddert, Chartered, presented the findings Tuesday. District officials said total funds increased by approximately $691,000 to end the year at $49.5 million, and bond debt decreased by over $9 million, from $83 million to $74.2 million. The board voted 6-0 to accept the audit report.

Major athletic upgrades for South High approved

SALINA, Kan. — Over half a million dollars in athletic facility upgrades for Salina High School South were approved Tuesday as part of the board’s consent agenda. Projects include $478,806 for new bleachers and a press box from Heartland Seating; $30,998 for a new pole vault pit from BSN Sports; and $30,486 for an all-weather structural spray for track runways from Fisher Tracks. The projects are part of ongoing improvements to the school’s athletic fields.

Boys & Girls Club eyes Sunset Park for new facility

SALINA, Kan. — A potential new location for the Boys & Girls Club of Salina was discussed during board member reports Tuesday evening. The organization is considering a 13,000-square-foot facility at Bondy Field within Sunset Park. The proposed location would impact existing ballfield space and remains under review by the Salina City Commission following a city-led public information meeting on Oct. 9.

Board approves new high school courses, including integrated science

SALINA, Kan. — The school board unanimously approved four new high school course proposals Tuesday aimed at strengthening career pathways and improving science preparedness. The new courses include two in the early childhood education pathway, Theatre 2 and an Integrated Science class. District officials said Integrated Science, which combines earth science with chemistry and physics concepts, is designed to better align with state assessments and expose more students to a broader range of science topics earlier in their high school careers.
