WINFIELD, Kan. — The Winfield City Commission voted unanimously to award a contract for renovations at the T.H. Vaughan Tennis Center. Director of Public Improvements Patrick Steward said the project includes fencing improvements and upgrades to the seven original tennis courts. The resolution authorizes City Manager Taggart Wall and the city clerk to execute the agreement.

WINFIELD, Kan. — The commission authorized the sale and conveyance of property at 4625 E. 9th Ave. to Vereit Real Estate LP. City Manager Taggart Wall noted the property was financed with Taxable Industrial Revenue Bonds, Series 2012, and had been leased by the real estate firm. The measure passed unanimously.


Property on Meldrum conveyed to Vereit Real Estate

WINFIELD, Kan. — In a related measure, the commission unanimously approved the conveyance of property at 1101 Meldrum to Vereit Real Estate LP. Wall noted this site was also financed through Taxable Industrial Revenue Bonds, Series 2012. The transaction mirrors the transfer of the East 9th Avenue property.


Boss Hog's BBQ granted cereal malt beverage license

WINFIELD, Kan. — The commission granted a 2026 cereal malt beverage license to Boss Hog's BBQ, 314 W. 8th Ave. City Clerk Tania Richardson presented the application for the barbecue restaurant. The license approval was unanimous.

Health department leadership changes hands

COWLEY COUNTY, Kan. — After more than a decade of service, City-Cowley County Health Department Administrator Tom Langer has retired, and the commission has appointed Allyson Henley as the new public health officer. Langer, who guided the community through the COVID-19 pandemic, announced his departure recently. Henley, a Southwestern College graduate and former epidemiologist for the department, was sworn in immediately following the commission's unanimous approval.
