WICHITA VOTERS OVERWHELMINGLY REJECT 1% SALES TAX

WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita voters overwhelmingly rejected a proposed 1% citywide sales tax Tuesday, with 81.8% voting against the measure (41,097 to 9,143). The tax would have generated an estimated $850 million over seven years for public safety, homeless services, property tax relief, the Century II convention center and a new performing arts center. Results are unofficial until canvassing is complete.
