Wellington Students Advance to National Business Competition, Excel at Regional Science Fair

WELLINGTON, Kan. — Eight Wellington High School students will advance to the national Business Professionals of America competition in Nashville following strong performances at the state level.

The national competition will take place May 6-10 in Nashville. The students recently participated in the state competition.

Final results from the state competition include:

Boston Lawrence placed first in Banking & Finance and fifth in Advanced Accounting.

In the top 10, students placed in three categories: Gabi Angleton in Financial Math Analysis, Medical Terminology, and Management, Marketing & Human Resources; Gabi Angleton also placed fifth in Personal Financial Management and sixth in Fundamental Spreadsheets.

Easton Lynnes placed ninth in Fundamental Spreadsheets.

Amberlynn Copple and Meryn Metzeri placed sixth on the Visual Design Team.

Kira Worley, Cameron Gore, Ava Bales and Lily Morningstar placed sixth on the Small Business Management Team.

Jackson Newman, Grant Giefer and Hank Shinliver placed sixth on the Presentation Team.

Science Fair Success

Wellington Middle School students also performed well at the Regional Science Fair Competition at Exploration Place in Wichita last week.

Students took part in the regional competition and several advanced to Exploration Place. A few pictures and a list of Division II category winners for grades 6-8 are available.

Winners in various categories include:

Biomedical and Health Sciences: Sophia Dry won for "Cleanest way to dry your hands."

Cellular and Molecular Biology: Keiyann Nance and Paige Zeka won for "Magical Flowers."

Chemistry: Lexi Aldridge won for "The Sweet Science of Ripeness."

Microbiology: Ivy Wolf won for "Is a dog's mouth cleaner than a human's?"

Robotic and Intelligent Machines: Sailor Francisco and Jocelyn Hamilton won for "Build The Helping Hand."

Software Design: Achilles Reynolds won for "How Well Can You Make a Game?"

Technology Enhances the Arts: Zyana Graham won for "How to Build an Infinity Mirror?"

Wellington is located in Sumner County in south-central Kansas.
