Wellington High School NHS Hosts Blood Drive Amid Nationwide Shortage

WELLINGTON — Wellington High School's National Honor Society will host a blood drive Jan. 29 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the school, located at 1700 E. 16th St.

The event marks the last blood drive opportunity of the school year, and organizers are urging community members to donate amid a nationwide blood shortage.

"There is a nationwide blood shortage, and we are also experiencing a shortage of donors," Wellington KS Public Schools said in an announcement. "Please help your community and our NHS students by donating blood."

According to the school, donations help raise scholarship money for NHS students and can save lives. While organizers prefer donors to sign up for a time slot in advance, walk-ins will be accommodated as long as space is available.

The Red Cross has reported ongoing challenges with blood supply levels across the country, making community blood drives increasingly critical to maintaining adequate inventory for medical procedures and emergencies.
