Wellington 8th Graders Interview Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise

WELLINGTON, Kan. — eighth-grade science students at Wellington Middle School recently had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to interview Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise, an event coordinated by science teacher Aubrey Roths through a Facebook group called Space Hipsters.

Haise and his helper, Logan Jaeren, reached out to teachers on the group page offering the chance to interview him. Roths signed up her eighth-grade class, which is currently studying the history of spaceflight.

The interview will lead into further Apollo 13-related experiences for the students, including a trip to the Regent Theatre to watch the Apollo 13 film and a field trip to the Cosmosphere to see the Odyssey capsule in person.
