1 Bullpups' Late Rally Falls Short as Mulvane Prevails 35-21

McPherson High School's football team, dressed in all black for senior night, saw their two-game winning streak snapped, falling 35-21 to the Mulvane Wildcats in a hard-fought game on Friday. Despite a valiant comeback effort, the Bullpups were unable to overcome Mulvane's explosive plays.

Mulvane took control early, with quarterback Manny Myers leading the Wildcats to a 7-0 lead after scrambling to find an open receiver for a touchdown on fourth down. The Bullpups struggled to find their footing, going three-and-out on their first possession and later turning the ball over on downs after a promising drive to the Mulvane 25-yard line.

The Wildcats extended their lead in the second quarter with a 59-yard touchdown pass and a massive 83-yard touchdown run by Myers, pushing the score to 21-0. McPherson finally found some momentum late in the first half, as Brody Seidl’s interception, with a cast on his left forearm, set up an 85-yard touchdown by Ashton Malm on a bubble screen, cutting the deficit to 21-7 just before halftime.

Mulvane continued to apply pressure in the second half, pushing their lead to 27-7 with a short touchdown run. However, the Bullpups weren’t ready to back down. In the fourth quarter, the connection between quarterback Carter Allen and Malm shined again. Malm caught an 85-yard touchdown pass early in the quarter, narrowing the score to 27-14. With less than four minutes remaining, Allen found Malm once more in the back left corner of the end zone on fourth and 11, cutting the Mulvane lead to 27-21.

But Mulvane sealed the game when Myers scored his second 80-yard touchdown of the night, restoring a two-score lead at 35-21. The Bullpups' final push fell short, and the Wildcats left McPherson with the win.

McPherson will look to bounce back next Friday when they travel to Augusta, hoping to get back on track after the tough loss.
