Washington Elementary Earns National Recognition for Third Consecutive Year
School ranks among top 40% of Kansas elementary schools in U.S. News report
Washington Elementary has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the Best Elementary Schools in Kansas for the third consecutive year. The school ranked among the top 40% of elementary schools statewide, having previously received the distinction in 2023 and 2024. The honor recognizes sustained academic achievement and consistent quality across multiple measures of student success.
Principal Jill Beam emphasized that the recognition reflects the collaborative efforts of the entire school community. "This honor is a true reflection of the teamwork, dedication, and heart that define our school community," Beam said. "Every member of the WES family — teachers, paras, specialists, office staff, custodians, cafeteria crew, and support teams — plays a vital role in creating a learning environment where students feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow."
U.S. News evaluates schools using factors including state assessment proficiency, performance of underserved student populations, and overall student outcomes. While the specific methodology varies by grade level, the evaluation focuses on academic performance, equity, and effectively serving all students. "Being named among the 'Best' schools in the state is a meaningful affirmation that Washington Elementary continues to demonstrate sustained achievement and consistent quality — and that our students, staff, and families have much to celebrate," Beam noted.
