Varsity Falls in Double Overtime While JV Squad Secures Shutout Victory
Bullpups split soccer matches against Hutchinson
The McPherson High School Bullpups had mixed results against Hutchinson, with the varsity squad dropping a heartbreaker in double overtime while the junior varsity team cruised to a shutout win over the Salthawks.
The varsity match went down to the wire before McPherson fell 2-1 in the second overtime period. Jackson Martin found the back of the net in the second half on an assist from Manny Morales, but it wasn't enough to secure the victory for the Bullpups.
Goalkeeper Gabe Standfast turned in a stellar performance with 13 saves, keeping McPherson in contention throughout the hard-fought contest against Hutchinson. The Bullpups managed six shots on goal but couldn't find the equalizer when it mattered most.
The JV squad provided a bright spot with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Salthawks. Paxton Weiser opened the scoring for McPherson on a feed from Elliott Schoming, setting the tone for the shutout win.
