USDA Releases Billions in Disaster Aid for Kansas Farmers
Second stage of relief program opens applications for crop losses not covered in initial round.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced the release of billions in disaster assistance for farmers recovering from natural disasters that struck across the country in 2023 and 2024. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the continued financial success of farming and ranching operations represents a national security priority as the agency works to expedite recovery assistance to producers.
The Farm Service Agency is delivering more than $16 billion in total Supplemental Disaster Relief Program assistance, building on over $9.3 billion already distributed through the Emergency Commodity Assistance Program to more than 560,000 row crop farmers and $705 million in Emergency Livestock Relief Program aid to over 220,000 ranchers. Stage Two of the disaster relief program covers eligible crop, tree, bush and vine losses not addressed in the initial round, including non-indemnified shallow losses and quality losses.
FSA county offices will begin accepting Stage Two applications on November 24, 2025, with producers having until April 30, 2026, to apply for both stages of assistance. The first stage remains available to producers who received crop insurance indemnities for eligible losses from qualifying natural disaster events. Since March 2025, USDA has provided more than $16 billion in supplemental disaster assistance mandated by Congress through the American Relief Act.
