USD 309 Reno Valley School District: Summer Activities and Fall Preparations

As summer continues, USD 309 Reno Valley School District is keeping families informed about schedule adjustments, community events, and exciting opportunities for students to stay engaged during the break.

Summer Program Schedule Changes

Reno Valley Middle School recently announced important adjustments to their summer programming. The weight room schedule has been modified for the remainder of July, with Tuesday and Thursday morning middle school basketball skills sessions being discontinued. However, the weight room will continue operating as scheduled, allowing kids to enjoy a bit more sleep on Tuesday and Thursday mornings while maintaining their fitness routines.

Community Health and Wellness Events

The district is actively supporting community wellness initiatives, including the upcoming Klear Nearly 4th Annual 2 Mile Fun Run/Walk for Mental Health Awareness. This meaningful event, held in remembrance of Jim Goble, demonstrates the district's commitment to mental health awareness among students and families.

The event is scheduled for July 20th at 8:00 a.m., with pre-registration and check-in beginning at 7:30 a.m. Participants can expect the run/walk to start shortly after 8:00 a.m. The organizers are requesting a $15 donation and emphasize that this is both a fun run/walk event and an important mental health awareness initiative. Registration information is available through the Nickerson Grade School contact at 620-200-5358 or by visiting the Nickerson Kansas Chamber of Commerce.

Youth Football Camp Builds District Connections

USD 309 is fostering athletic development across the district through collaborative programming. Nickerson High School's Youth Football Camp exemplifies this cooperative spirit, welcoming students from multiple district schools including Nickerson Elementary, South Hutchinson Elementary, and Reno Valley Middle School.

The camp, scheduled for July 28th, 29th, and 30th, runs from 6:00-8:00 PM at the NHS Practice Field and Game Field. Designed for 3rd-8th graders in the 2025/2026 school year, the camp offers high-quality coaching and skill development under the guidance of NHS staff and varsity players.

Coach Bruce and the Nickerson High School staff are hosting this three-day intensive program that promises top-notch coaching and skill development opportunities. The camp will conclude with a special competition on the final night, providing young athletes a chance to showcase their newly developed skills.

Pre-registration is due by July 18th for $15, though walk-ins will be accepted but won't receive a camp t-shirt. Payments can be made via check to NHS Football or cash on the first day of camp, with t-shirts distributed after the camp concludes on July 30th.

Back-to-School Community Building

South Hutchinson Elementary is already looking ahead to the new school year with their "Welcome Back to School Watermelon Feed" scheduled for Wednesday, August 13th from 5:30-7:00 PM. This community event represents the district's commitment to building strong relationships between families, students, and staff before the academic year begins.

District-Wide Collaboration

Superintendent Parker Bruce emphasized the importance of building programs "from the bottom up" and encouraged community members to spread the word about these opportunities throughout the district. The collaboration between schools demonstrates USD 309's commitment to providing comprehensive experiences for students regardless of which school they attend within the district.

These summer activities and fall preparations showcase USD 309's dedication to student development, community engagement, and inter-school cooperation, setting a positive tone for the upcoming academic year.
