Upcoming municipal meetings

City Commission

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission is set to advance a major corridor project at its meeting Tuesday, Dec. 23, with a scheduled vote on a $512,400 engineering contract for improvements at Kansas Avenue and the U.S. 81 Bypass. The agreement with Alfred Benesch & Company covers design services for the estimated $6.6 million initiative, which is partially funded by a state grant and will coordinate with upcoming bridge work on Highway 61 that requires utilizing U.S. 56 as a detour. In addition to the infrastructure planning, commissioners will consider a corrective measure for the Phase III Avenue A trail design contract, approve the city's 2026 snow and ice control policy and vote on the appointment of Alexis Dargiewicz as the new planning and zoning administrator.

Study Session

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission will address mechanical failures facing the Fire Department’s aging Engine 2 and review final costs for completed public works projects during a study session Tuesday. Fire officials are scheduled to discuss engine and pump issues plaguing the department's 2006 International pumper truck before commissioners consider contract deductions for the Myers Street design and the Deerfield Estates South moderate-income housing development, both of which finished under budget. The agenda also includes a vote on a new ordinance regulating mobile food vendors to be added to city code, a resolution establishing city fees for 2026, and a review of the upcoming strategic plan priorities.

County Commission

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Commission will meet Monday morning at the Public Works Department—its temporary home during ongoing courthouse renovations—to close out the year with a public hearing on 2025 budget amendments and decisions on escalating infrastructure costs. Commissioners are scheduled to vote on a revised $223,246 quote for reinforced concrete bridge components, a nearly $48,000 increase from a previous bid after materials were unintentionally omitted, and will consider a $51,076 proposal from Fuqua Construction to install visual shielding around HVAC units at the county building. The board is also expected to approve an on-call surveying contract, with Garber Surveying recommended as the top-ranked firm, and will revisit a tabled request from the Whiskey Wagon to sell alcohol at the upcoming Battle of the Bands, a fundraising event slated for the 2026 All Schools Day celebration.
