MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission is set to consider a significant administrative reorganization at its Tuesday meeting that would delegate supervision of the fire, police, and public works departments to the city administrator. According to the published agenda, the motion also includes placing the city clerk under the assistant city administrator and the assistant city clerk under the city clerk. The commission will also welcome Sharon Thiel as the new Assistant City Clerk, vote on a payment not to exceed $12,000 for a data extraction project for the Municipal Court's software conversion, and hear a report on the 2025 crime statistics. Several community events are on the consent agenda for approval, including the McPherson Fireman's Benefit Car Show and the 70th Anniversary of the McPherson Airport, both scheduled for September 12, 2026.

The McPherson City Commission will consider a variety of topics at its study session on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Among the items on the agenda is the approval of a payment not to exceed $56,400.00 to Ashton Kate Construction for the painting and repair of the Lazy River. The commission will also review a potential zoning change for a property located at 1300 N Hwy 81 Bypass. Additionally, the agenda includes a motion to approve a contract with CPS HR Consulting for recruitment services for an Assistant Chief Operator at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, for an amount not to exceed $22,500.00. The meeting will be held at 9:15 AM in Conference Room A/B.

County

The McPherson County Commission on Monday is expected to award a contract for just under $600,000 for a bridge replacement, certify the completion of the multi-million dollar county office building renovation, and approve an agreement for services for developmentally disabled residents. According to the agenda and supporting documents, the Public Works Department will recommend awarding the bid for the replacement of Bridge #075010 south of Inman to L&M Contractors, Inc. for $597,438.75 and will also request approval to advertise for a new mechanic. Fuqua Construction, Inc. is scheduled to present the certification of completion for the extensive McPherson County Office Building renovation. The commission will also review budget adjustments and an end-of-year case plan from Harvey/McPherson Counties Community Corrections and consider approval of the fiscal year 2027 agreement with the McPherson County Community Developmental Disability Organization.
