MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson USD 418 Board of Education on Monday will take up a full agenda that includes moving forward with voter-approved bond projects, launching a new manufacturing program at the high school, and giving final approval to a new cell phone policy. Following the successful passage of a bond issue in March, the board will hear an overview of the architectural design work and is slated to approve a proposal for $170,800 in summer facility improvements at three elementary schools. The board will also consider an agreement to establish an SME PRIME (Partnership Response in Manufacturing Education) program at McPherson High School, which the agenda notes will be the first in Kansas. Additionally, a final vote is scheduled for a new student cell phone policy, which was developed to align with new Kansas legislation requiring students' personal devices to be turned off and stored during the school day. The board will also vote on numerous updated student and staff handbooks for the 2026-27 school year, which include revised attendance policies and new staff incentive programs.

The McPherson County Board of Commissioners on Monday will consider a proclamation of a local disaster emergency following a severe thunderstorm on June 8 that caused widespread damage and left the town of Marquette without electricity. The board will also take up a property tax exemption application for Viega LLC, which plans a storage and maintenance expansion to add an estimated 40 new jobs over four years. Also on the agenda is a letter from the county's planning administrator to the Equus Beds Groundwater Management District No. 2, requesting regional cooperation in managing groundwater resources amid findings of a long-term decline in McPherson County's water levels. The commissioners will also review a grant agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation for the "Safe Streets and Roads for All" program and an invoice for roadwork near a railroad crossing in Galva.

The McPherson City Commission on Tuesday will consider two significant zoning ordinances, one of which would create a Planned Unit Development for Central Christian College to facilitate the development of its campus. The proposed ordinance, No. 3462, would rezone college parcels from business and office districts to a mix of business and residential uses; the city's planning commission reviewed the proposal at a public hearing on June 2. The commission will also vote on Ordinance No. 3463, which amends city regulations regarding lot splits after a four-month review period. Other items on the agenda include a motion to approve an agreement with Transmap Corporation for a city-wide pavement condition survey, the addition of a stop sign for westbound traffic at the intersection of Lincoln and Augustus Streets, and the approval of a payment up to $3,614.34 to the McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity for demolition expenses.

The McPherson City Commission will consider a payment of over $100,000 for workers' compensation insurance and the cleanup of a local property at its study session on Tuesday. The agenda for the June 16, 2026, meeting includes a motion to pay the Kansas Eastern Regional Insurance Trust, a self-insurance program for local governments, an amount not to exceed $105,114 for the second half of the 2026 workers' compensation premium. Additionally, the commission will discuss a motion to approve payment to the lowest bidder for a property nuisance abatement at 105 Arcadian Ct. and to invoice the property owner for the same amount. The city's code enforcement can hire a contractor to remedy violations if a property owner does not comply with an order to do so, with the costs being assessed to the property owner. The study session is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. in Conference Room A/B.
