MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson County Commission will consider several significant land use proposals during its meeting on Monday, June 1, including the proposed rezoning of nearly 100 acres from agricultural to light industrial use for the expansion of a pipeline support business and a special use permit for a new rural event venue and Christmas tree farm. The commission will also take up a resolution to create a temporary moratorium on issuing permits for accessory dwelling units in unincorporated areas, a move intended to allow staff time to amend zoning regulations to comply with a new state law. Also on the agenda are 2027 appropriation requests from the McPherson County Council on Aging and the County Conservation District, a change order from Fuqua Construction for the County Building renovation project, and several purchasing and contract approvals for the Public Works department.

The McPherson City Commission will hear a report from the fire chief on the department's recent deployment to combat major grass fires in Clark and Meade counties during its meeting on Tuesday. The fires, which began in mid-May, burned nearly 130,000 acres in southwest Kansas. The agenda also includes the approval of three 2026 Visitor Attraction Grants, and consideration of several community event requests on the consent agenda, including the "DJ Dossett Summer Takeover Show," "Chalk the Block Summer Family Night," and an "Oxford Fundraiser." Additionally, commissioners will announce special work sessions scheduled for June 1 and June 2 to address the municipal budget.

The McPherson City Commission will hold a study session on Tuesday to discuss a range of topics including a nearly $11,000 purchase of hazardous materials suits and a proposal for a new stop sign. The meeting, scheduled for 9:15 a.m. in Conference Room A/B, will cover a full agenda of items from various city departments. The agenda includes a motion to approve up to $16,000 for gWorks to perform data extraction for the Municipal Court's software conversion and another to pay Delta Fire & Safety up to $10,913.35 for four new Kappler Haz Mat suits for the Fire Department. The Planning & Zoning department will present a request from Central Christian College to rezone its property to a Planned Unit Development (PUD) district. Additionally, the Public Works department is seeking approval for a new stop sign at the intersection of Lincoln and Augustus Streets. Other items on the agenda include a pavement condition survey agreement with Transmap Corporation and a funding request from the McPherson Area Habitat for Humanity for demolition expenses.
