Upcoming municipal meetings

School Board

MCPHERSON, Kan. - The McPherson USD 418 Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Monday at the district office, 514 N. Main St., to discuss a proposal for redrawing elementary school boundaries. This agenda item follows the board's Dec. 8 decision to transition to a three-elementary-school model and place a bond issue on the March ballot involving the repurposing of Eisenhower Elementary. In addition to the boundary process, the board will hear the 2025 financial audit report from The Loyd Group, consider a motion to call a special meeting regarding employee wages, and vote on the second round of McPherson Education Foundation grants for the 2025-26 school year. Members are also scheduled to discuss an agreement with ESSDACK EdVantage and hold executive sessions concerning negotiations, personnel, a student matter and the superintendent's evaluation.

County Commission

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Board of Commissioners will convene Monday at the Public Works Department meeting room, continuing their temporary displacement from the historic courthouse due to ongoing renovations. Planning and Zoning Administrator Jon Kinsey is seeking approval for a $46,430 replacement vehicle—a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado—after the department’s 2009 Jeep Compass was totaled in a September hail storm. Public Works Director David Bohnenblust will request ratification of an emergency $3,899 turbocharger purchase for a 2008 semi-truck, a significantly lower cost than the $14,000 alternative quote received. The board will also review an event permit request from Cord Nestor of the mobile bar service Whiskey Wagon and hear a presentation on a potential update to the county seal from Lori Bower. Following this session, the commission will observe a reduced holiday schedule, with county offices closing at noon on Christmas Eve and remaining closed through Christmas Day.

City Council

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission will meet Tuesday to finalize the 2025 amended budget and consider raising the spending authority for city department heads for the first time since 2021. Following a 9 a.m. public hearing, commissioners are scheduled to vote on a measure that would increase the limit for unapproved departmental expenses from $3,000 to $5,000, effective Jan. 1. The agenda also highlights economic development and community planning, with a vote on a special use permit to establish a new Les Schwab Tire Center in the Interchange Business District, approval of 2026 fire service agreements with neighboring townships, and a fee waiver to support the annual Community Christmas Dinner.

City Council Study Session

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission is set to review a transfer of airport project obligations and updated service contracts during a study session Tuesday. The agenda includes a novation agreement that would officially shift responsibility for a Kansas Airport Improvement Program (KAIP) preservation project from the city to the McPherson Airport Authority. Commissioners will also consider a two-year renewal with Gloria’s Cleaning Company that reflects a 5% rate increase for maintaining the Municipal Center and other city facilities, alongside a $42,134 annual contract for Caselle financial software support.
