Upcoming municipal meetings

MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson City Commission meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to receive 2025 audited financial statements from Loyd Group, LLC, award the 2026 Mill and Overlay Project to Apac-Kansas Inc. for $482,592.60, and consider Ordinance No. 3458 amending the frequency of regular commission meetings and the authority to pay liabilities when the governing body does not meet. The Apac-Kansas bid came in below the $597,685.58 engineer's estimate and was the lowest of four submitted April 16. Other items include a $12,500 allocation for two seasonal administrative interns, Resolution 26-08 updating Kansas Municipal Investment Pool officers after the addition of a new assistant finance director, a supplemental traffic signal maintenance agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for the Interstate 135 northbound off-ramp at Kansas Avenue, and proclamations for Municipal Clerks Week, National Travel and Tourism Week, Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, and Buddy Poppy.

A 9:15 a.m. study session in Conference Room A/B follows, with McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility General Manager Michael Craig delivering an MASWU update, engineering firm Benesch presenting a Wastewater Treatment Facility Master Plan value engineering report, and commissioners reviewing an ordinance amending Section 38-82 of city code to require building code and safety standards for smoking lounges. Public Works will also brief commissioners on the federal Transportation Alternatives grant funding a 10-foot sidewalk along Maxwell Street and provide a Tulip Street project update. Immediately after the study session, commissioners will tour the new Park Department greenhouse at 607 W. 1st Street and inspect recently patched portions of W. 1st Street, in a gathering the city has noticed as a public meeting because more than one commissioner is expected to attend.
