MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson County Commission on Monday will consider purchasing a new plow/dump truck for more than a quarter-million dollars and filling vacancies on two local boards. The Public Works department is recommending the purchase of a 2027 plow/dump truck from MHC Kenworth in Salina for $252,686, the lowest of five bids submitted. Also on the agenda are requests to approve the purchase of $9,000 in concrete blocks, cell phone purchases for Emergency Management, and electrical work at the Law Enforcement Center estimated to cost $3,484. The commission will also consider appointing Reed Gleason to fill a vacancy for the Mound Township Treasurer and appointing John Godfrey to the McPherson Airport Authority Board.

The McPherson City Commission's upcoming meeting on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, will address a range of community topics, including event approvals, visitor attraction grants, and equipment purchases. The agenda details the approval of grants for several local events, including the McPherson Swim Club's "Sunflower Splashtacular," the United Way's 19th Annual Triathlon, and the McPherson College C.A.R.S. Club's 2026 Motoring Festival Car Show. The commission will also vote on the purchase of a new "Grizzly Mosquito Sprayer" for $22,854.00 to enhance the city's mosquito control efforts. Other agenda items include requests for a "Pride 2026" event, a "Mac-Town Race Day," and "Thriftfest," a community market.

The City Commission's study session on April 21 will address several key items, including the approval of a nearly half-million-dollar street maintenance project. Public Works is recommending awarding a $482,592.60 contract to Apac-Kansas Inc. for the 2026 Mill and Overlay Project. Also on the agenda is a new job description for a Fire Inspection Captain, a maintenance agreement with the Kansas Department of Transportation for the traffic signal at the I-135 northbound off-ramp and Kansas Avenue, and the allocation of up to $12,500 from budget savings to fund two seasonal administrative interns. The commission will also consider motions to approve annual support renewals for IT infrastructure, including a storage array and network switches.
