School Board to Address Bond Planning, New Cell Policy
MCPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson USD 418 Board of Education on Monday will discuss the planning and financing of a recently voter-approved bond issue, a new cell phone policy prompted by state legislation, and a calendar change related to the district's transition from four elementary schools to three. According to the published agenda for the April 13, 2026, meeting, the board will also consider new course proposals, accept numerous donations for various schools, and enter into closed-door executive sessions to discuss teacher contract negotiations and the search for a new superintendent. The proposed elementary calendar change would make May 14 the last day of school, canceling a half-day previously scheduled for May 15, to provide staff with additional time to prepare for the school consolidation.
The McPherson County Board of Commissioners is slated to authorize heavy machinery repairs and process multiple staffing changes during its April 13 meeting. Public Works Director David Bohnenblust will request repair approval for equipment No. 81, a 2008 Caterpillar backhoe, while Sheriff Jerry Montagne, alongside Capt. Arlo Blevins and Register of Deeds Laurie Wiziarde, will present non-elected personnel matters covering four county employees.
