MCPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson County Commission will take up several public works matters, including significant spending on road materials and equipment, during its meeting on April 6, 2026. Public Works Director David Bohnenblust is scheduled to ask the commission to award the 2026 bids for roadway maintenance materials, with staff recommending Ergon for contracts on four types of asphalt oils. Also on the agenda is a request from the department to purchase a gas-powered spin screed and pipes from Marshalltown for $5,500 and the approval of a $44,564.50 payment to L&M Contractors for replacement work on Bridge #100080. The commission is also slated to hear from the Planning and Zoning administrator, who is requesting a signature on a contract for ChangeFinder, an aerial pictometry service.

The McPherson City Commission's upcoming meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, will address a range of topics including community events, public works projects, and departmental purchases. The agenda includes discussions on visitor attraction grants for several local events, such as the McPherson Gem & Mineral Club Show, Rolling Thunder Gamefest, and The Ark Antiques & Flea Market's Highway 56 Sales Scramble. Additionally, the commission will consider the purchase of LeadsOnline software for the police department, new chairs for the Community Building, and bunker gear for the Fire Department. The agenda also features a number of event requests, including the Mac-Town Race Day, MHS Prom, and the McPherson College Car Show Cruise-In.

The McPherson City Commission's upcoming study session will address a variety of community and infrastructure topics, including the proposed purchase of a $22,854 mosquito sprayer to replace aging equipment, and two change orders for the 1st Street concrete patching and joint sealant projects that would result in a net increase of $24,346.20 in project costs. Also on the agenda for the April 7, 2026, meeting are motions to approve an unpaid summer internship with the Police Department for a University of Kansas student, payment of $9,825 for electronic door access at the Municipal Center, and an event request for a Pride celebration to be held at Wall Park on June 13, 2026. The commission will also hear an update on the city's Pavement Condition Assessments, as engineering is gathering a third quote for a comprehensive analysis of city streets to inform a future 5-10 year improvement plan.
