Upcoming municipal meetings

School Board

Following the successful passage of a two-part bond issue totaling over $89 million and the recent departure announcement of Superintendent Shiloh Vincent, the McPherson USD 418 Board of Education will convene Monday to outline the district's future. The board will hear from inCite Design Studios and Piper Sandler regarding project planning and financial structuring for the newly approved bond, which will fund extensive high school renovations and the conversion of Eisenhower Elementary into a middle school. Consequently, the board is slated to vote on new elementary attendance boundaries for the 2026-2027 school year, based on demographer RSP & Associates' recommendations for the district's impending shift to a three-elementary system. Monday's agenda also includes an update on the 2026-2027 budgeting process to achieve targeted savings, a food service audit, a review of the board's social contract, and closed executive sessions to discuss personnel and ongoing teacher contract negotiations.

BPU

The McPherson Board of Public Utilities will convene Monday afternoon to review city utility operations and financial reports during its regular meeting. The session, scheduled for 3 p.m. at the BPU office at 401 W. Kansas Ave., will open with a public input period before transitioning to the treasurer's report and operational updates covering administration, water distribution, and electric production. Following the public proceedings, the board is slated to enter an executive session to discuss nonelected personnel matters before adjourning.

CVB

While the McPherson City Commission is not scheduled to meet again until March 17 following a recent shift to a twice-a-month meeting schedule, the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) Board will convene Wednesday, March 11, to vote on marketing grants for several upcoming tourism events. The provided CVB agenda features $2,000 in visitor attraction funding requests, including $500 for the McPherson Gem & Mineral Club’s May 1-3 show and a first-time $500 request for the inaugural Rolling Thunder Gamefest, a tabletop gaming convention hosted by the Social Games Club at McPherson College on May 23-24. Additionally, The Ark Antiques & Flea Market is seeking $1,000 — double what it received last year — to promote the second annual Highway 56 Sales Scramble, a regional multi-town shopping event set for April 23-26. Alongside the grants, the CVB board will review financial reports and hear ex-officio updates from local entities, including the Chamber of Commerce and McPherson Main Street, as the city gears up for a busy spring season.
