The United Way partnered with the local Convention and Visitors Bureau Trolley to host a two-part "Meat" the Need food drive, aimed at bridging a summer gap in food deliveries. The first collection took place Thursday, July 16, at the McPherson Walmart, gathering meat and protein for the McPherson County Food Bank and local senior centers, which won't receive regular commodity shipments again until September. A second drive is scheduled for July 28, again using the CVB Trolley as a drop-off point for community donations.

Before that second collection, the United Way will host its 19th annual triathlon on Saturday, July 25, to raise funds for the 18 nonprofit programs across the county. The race, open to competitors ages 5 and older, will be held at the McPherson Water Park and Lakeside Park.
Adult participants will complete a 200-meter serpentine swim, a 7-mile bike ride and a 2-mile run. A specialized youth course will feature a 100-meter swim, a 1-mile bike ride and a 0.75-mile run. Event registration is currently open online.
