Two Students Earn Distinguished Dragon Recognition at Hutchinson Community College

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community College recognized two exceptional students as Distinguished Dragons, highlighting achievements in academics, athletics and the arts.
Jordyn Picolet of Council Grove and Madison Staib of Hutchinson earned the honor as part of the college's summer series celebrating student excellence.

Picolet, who studied agriculture, broke multiple school records as a member of the cross country and track teams. She set records in the indoor 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and posted the second-fastest time in Blue Dragon women's history in the 10,000 meters at the 2024 national championships.
At the 2025 national championships, she shattered her own record by 2 minutes, 6.03 seconds. Blue Dragons Athletics described her as one of the top distance runners in program history.
"Jordyn was an outstanding student in my class," one nominator wrote. "She is also a model of how to be an exceptional athlete and student. In addition to this, she has a delightful personality."
The Presidential Gold Scholar graduated with high honors and made the President's Honor Roll repeatedly. She also participated in the college's Honors Program and worked as a tutor.
Picolet said one of her favorite memories was learning to swing dance with her roommate during a dance club activity.
"I would like to thank the teachers for actually enjoying what they're teaching and doing all they can to help students understand their subjects," she said.

Staib studied music education and served as a student ambassador while participating in numerous musical performances and groups.
"Madison excels as both a student ambassador and fine arts participant," her nominator wrote. "Her cheerful personality instantly puts prospective students at ease, helping them envision themselves as part of our campus community."
The Leadership Scholar performed in "Tiny Steps" and "The Spotlight Sessions: A Musical Showcase." She belonged to Phi Theta Kappa and participated in Vocal Jazz, Pep Band, Concert Choir, Symphonic Band and Concert Jazz Band.
Staib traveled with Vocal Jazz and Jazz Band to the University of Northern Colorado Greeley Jazz Festival, one of the premier jazz festivals in the nation.
"I would like to thank all of the teachers I had as well as the people in the administration office and the endowment office," Staib said. "Everyone is wonderful and is amazing at their jobs."
Both students were recognized as part of HutchCC's Distinguished Dragons program, which highlights students who led, inspired and stood out during their time at the college.
