Two dogs die in Hutchinson house fire

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Two dogs died in a kitchen fire at a single-story duplex in the 1000 block of North Plum on Saturday evening, Jan. 10, according to the Hutchinson Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the scene at 6:55 p.m. and found minimal smoke showing from the outside. Upon entering the home, crews encountered heavy smoke and fire in the kitchen.

Firefighters located and removed two dogs from the residence, but the animals were already deceased, according to a press release from Jeremy Unruh, division chief of operations.

All human occupants were out of the home at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

The fire was extinguished quickly, and the cause remains under investigation.

The Hutchinson Fire Department was assisted by Hutchinson Police, Evergy, Hutchinson Reno County Emergency Communications, Kansas Gas and Reno County EMS.
