Two dead, one injured in head-on collision on K-14 in Reno County

UPDATE:

According to witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, a southbound Chevy Malibu crossed the center line on the bridge over Blanchard Avenue and was struck head-on by a northbound Jeep Liberty. The reason the Malibu crossed the center line is unknown.

Cecil Chandler IV, 27, of Hutchinson, the driver of the Malibu, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

Adam Arevalo, 59, of Hutchinson, the driver of the Jeep Liberty, was being transported to Wichita by Eagle Med when the helicopter was redirected to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Shyann Cullison, 19, of Hutchinson, a passenger in the Malibu, was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center and then to a Wichita hospital in serious condition.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Speed, impairment, weather and other conditions have not been determined.

RENO COUNTY, Kan. — Two drivers died Saturday morning, Feb. 7, in a head-on collision on K-14 Highway about a half-mile north of U.S. 50, according to the Reno County Sheriff's Office.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:03 a.m. when a northbound silver Jeep Liberty and a southbound Chevrolet Malibu collided. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

A passenger from one of the vehicles was transported to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center with injuries. Their condition is unknown.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet determined whether speed, impairment, weather or other conditions contributed to the collision.

The highway remained closed between U.S. 50 and 6th Street for several hours during the investigation but reopened at 2:24 p.m.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the South Hutchinson Police Department, Buhler Police Department, Hutchinson Police Department, Hutchinson Fire Department, Reno County EMS, Eagle Med and Reno County 911 Emergency Communications.

No names are being released at this time.
