Turkey Creek Masters Returns Saturday with Deep Fields and Familiar Champions
Defending champions, past winners, and a slate of contenders set the stage for another competitive edition of the area's premier annual golf tournament
The Turkey Creek Masters returns this Saturday for its latest edition, continuing to build on a tradition that began in 2019. After a COVID-related hiatus in 2020, the tournament has grown into one of the area's most competitive annual events, drawing deep fields and returning champions across all three divisions.
The Open Division has produced a strong line of winners over the years, from Zach Douglas in 2019 to Matt Kruse in 2021 and Kelly Blomberg in 2022. Jake Lackey then established the tournament's first back-to-back titles in 2023 and 2024 before Treg Fawl broke through in 2025 — winning in his first year competing after previously serving as tournament organizer. Fawl returns Saturday as defending champion to a loaded field that includes past winners Lackey, Kruse, Douglas, and Blomberg, with Kipp Jones, Kelly Sorenson, Derek Burgan, and Bailey Ramsey adding further depth to what promises to be a wide-open race.
The Senior 1 Division has been defined by consistency and familiar names. Rich Olson won the inaugural title in 2019, followed by back-to-back championships from the late John Schaar in 2021 and 2022. Recent champions Jamie Piper (2023, 2025) and Chris Stucky (2024) headline this year's field alongside past winner Olson, with a deep group of contenders including Alan Porter, Ryan Schmid, Corey McKee, Kelly Ingrassia, Maury Hoefer, Richie Waltman, Chad Alexander, Scott Davis, and John Mehringer rounding out the division.
In Senior 2, Cliff Hawkes has taken firm control with three consecutive titles from 2023 through 2025, making him the clear favorite heading into Saturday. Past champions Gary Hess and Kent Schmidt are among those looking to dethrone him, joined by Nick Ikenberry, Tony Fawl, Bill Gately, and John Henke. With deep fields, returning champions, and multiple contenders vying across all three divisions, Turkey Creek looks primed to deliver another tight finish this Saturday.
