Train Derailment Closes Halstead Avenue in Hutchinson

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A train derailment Sunday morning closed a major east-side street in Hutchinson with no immediate timeline for reopening, police said.
Three empty railcars derailed and are blocking Halstead Avenue between 4th and 11th avenues, according to Hutchinson Police Department. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Police advised drivers to use alternate routes while crews work to clear the derailed cars from the roadway. The cause of the derailment was not immediately known.
The railroad company has been contacted for more information about the incident and cleanup efforts.
Halstead Avenue serves as a key north-south corridor on Hutchinson's east side, connecting residential areas with commercial districts and providing access to several businesses along the route.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
