TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The City Council unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to vacate a public alley, a key step in facilitating the construction of a new Goshen County Public Health building. The proposed facility will be located between East A and East B streets on a parcel of land east of the current courthouse. The vacation of the 20-foot alley is necessary to consolidate the property for the new building project. The ordinance must pass two subsequent readings at future council meetings to be finalized.
City secures $2.4 million federal grant for airport runway project
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Torrington Municipal Airport is set to receive a significant upgrade after the City Council accepted a $2.4 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration. The funds are designated for the rehabilitation of Runway 2-20, a primary runway at the airport. The project aims to improve safety and extend the life of the crucial infrastructure. The grant requires a 10 percent local match, which will be covered by funding from the Wyoming Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division, resulting in no direct cost to the city.

City to purchase new sanitation truck for nearly $380,000
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The city’s sanitation fleet will be updated with the purchase of a new automated side-load garbage truck. The council approved the expenditure of $379,936 from the sanitation fund to acquire a 2022 Peterbilt/Labrie vehicle. The purchase was a planned capital expense included in the current fiscal year's budget to replace aging equipment and maintain service reliability for residents.
Torrington police increase parking enforcement, clarify rules
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — City officials announced a renewed focus on enforcing municipal parking ordinances following resident concerns. In his report, Mayor Randy L. Adams clarified that vehicles parked on residential streets must be operable and registered, with a five-day limit for inoperable vehicles undergoing repairs. Additionally, semi-tractors and trailers are limited to eight hours of parking on residential streets. Officials stated they hope to resolve violations through education but will issue citations if necessary.
County accepts $377,812 federal cybersecurity grant
GOSHEN COUNTY, Wyo. — Goshen County will receive $377,812.05 in federal funding to bolster its cybersecurity infrastructure after the Board of Commissioners formally accepted the award. The county’s grant writer presented Resolution 2025-19, which the board adopted unanimously. The funds are part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program and are designated to enhance the county’s backup data center and related systems.
Public health officials report West Nile activity, active TB case
GOSHEN COUNTY, Wyo. — Public health officials reported recent West Nile virus activity in the county and confirmed one active case of tuberculosis, a reportable disease. During the Goshen County Commissioners’ meeting, a county public health nurse updated the board on several public health matters. In addition, the nurse said several positive cases of respiratory virus are present in the community. She also confirmed that flu shot clinics are underway throughout the county to prepare for the respiratory illness season.
