TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The Torrington City Council unanimously approved the second reading of the 2027 fiscal year budget on Tuesday, advancing a proposed $41,150,442.77 spending plan. Clerk-Treasurer Lynette Strecker noted the budget includes an estimated $385,600 in property tax revenue based on updated Goshen County assessments. The city will hold a final work session to review administrative fees and cash carryover before the budget's third and final reading on June 16.
Zoning approved for new subdivision

Special event permit granted for community truck show
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — A special event permit and fee waiver were unanimously approved for a community truck show, scheduled for June 27 at City Park. Organizers expect up to 30 show trucks and will utilize the park's picnic shelter and adjacent diagonal parking from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Police Chief Matt Johnson supported waiving the permit fee, noting the nonprofit event will offer a community benefit without requiring additional city resources or street barricades.
Dale Jones Municipal Pool opens for 55th season
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The Dale Jones Municipal Pool officially opened for the summer on Monday, showcasing recent refurbishments. City officials announced the facility's updated schedule, which includes designated times for adult lap swimming, swim team practices, swimming lessons and daily open swims. The pool will be closed to the public on Saturday, June 13, to host the annual Torrington Sharks swim meet.
Volunteer fire department implements new dispatch app
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The Torrington Volunteer Fire Department has integrated "I Am Responding," a new dispatch software that alerts firefighters via a smartphone app. Assistant Chief Cody Scott reported that the system allows volunteers to immediately signal their availability during a call, helping incident commanders determine if mutual aid is needed from neighboring agencies like Yoder or Lingle. The app also features a newly integrated city hydrant overlay to assist crews with locating the nearest water source during emergencies.
Commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence
TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Ahead of the nation's semi-quincentennial, Tuesday's meeting opened with the reading of extended excerpts from the Declaration of Independence.
