City council advances 2027 budget in split vote

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The Torrington City Council passed the first reading of the 2027 fiscal year budget ordinance in a split vote at Tuesday's meeting. Clerk-Treasurer Lynette Strecker noted that several key components of the budget, including wage recommendations, health insurance renewals, property and casualty insurance and administrative fee revenues, remain pending ahead of a later reading. The council will hold a public budget work session before the second reading to discuss the pending items and municipal information technology recommendations.

New backyard fire pit ordinance passes final reading

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — An ordinance regulating recreational backyard fire pits, barbecues and smokers passed its third and final reading unanimously. The new municipal code section was updated prior to its final approval to include a specific penalty provision for violations, a change suggested during previous readings. The self-contained penalty provision ensures enforcement measures and potential fines are clearly outlined within the ordinance itself.

City officials warn residents to keep dogs off sports fields

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Buildings and Grounds Superintendent Dennis Estes issued a warning to residents regarding an increase in animal waste on city sports fields and walking paths, particularly near the Jirdon Park ball fields. Estes reminded the public that city ordinance prohibits animals on sports fields, even when leashed, and warned that the city will begin issuing fines to violators. While the city provides waste stations and roll-out containers for proper disposal on walking paths, Estes urged residents to utilize the Candy Thompson Memorial Dog Park, which is currently being treated to remove sandburs.

The municipal facility will offer a wide array of aquatic activities for residents this year, including adult lap swim and water aerobics, swimming lessons, open swim, night swim, pool parties and practice time for the Torrington Sharks swim team.

Torrington prepares for second annual aerobatics air show

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The Torrington Tailslide AcroRodeo will return to the Torrington Airport this weekend for its second year. The competition kicks off Thursday with a contestant welcome party at The Open Barrel Brewing Company and a street dance and concert at the intersection of East A Street and 21st Avenue. The weekend will feature food trucks, tailgating, live radio play-by-play and full-day aerobatic competitions, culminating in a freestyle flight exhibition by the U.S. Unlimited Aerobatic Team and an award ceremony on Monday morning.

Summer concert series returns to downtown

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — The city's Summer Concert Series will officially kick off Thursday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the intersection of East A Street and 21st Avenue.
