Wichita police seek help identifying woman in apparent abduction

Wichita police are asking for the public's help in identifying a woman who appears to have been forcibly abducted by an unidentified man in surveillance video captured early Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the 1400 block of North Volutsia. Authorities have processed the audio and reduced background noise in hopes someone will recognize the woman's voice. The Wichita Police Department has reached out to regional and federal law enforcement partners for assistance and urges anyone with information about the woman's identity or whereabouts to contact them immediately.

Kansas lawmakers approve $460,000 for anticipated redistricting session

Kansas lawmakers voted Monday to allocate $460,000 for an anticipated special session to redistrict the state's legislative voting districts. The Legislative Coordinating Council approved $400,000 from the state general fund plus $60,000 for licensing costs. Senate President Ty Masterson said the legislature is preparing for what is likely to happen, and if the funds are not used, they will lapse back. Senate Minority Leader Dinah Sykes condemned the move as wasting taxpayer money on a political stunt. Masterson has previously called the redistricting effort part of President Donald Trump's work to "Make America Great Again."

The property tax exemption was valued at about $422,000 in the first full year of the project.

Nuclear startup plans mile-deep underground reactor in Kansas

California-based Deep Fission has signed a letter of intent with an undisclosed partner to install small nuclear reactors one mile underground in Kansas to power data centers and energy-intensive industries. The startup says its underground design provides natural shielding and passive containment while taking up minimal surface area. Deep Fission was selected for President Trump's nuclear pilot program, which aims to get at least three reactors operating by July 4, 2026, though the company has not disclosed whether the Kansas site will meet that deadline. The company went public through a reverse merger in September, raising $30 million, and has not yet revealed the Kansas location or partner.
