4. Brazilian Planemaker Sees Opening to Challenge Airbus-Boeing Duopoly
Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto says rising demand for commercial aircraft could create opportunities for new competitors to challenge the Airbus-Boeing duopoly in narrow-body jet production. Speaking from the company's São José dos Campos headquarters, Gomes Neto pointed to projections of 40,000 aircraft needed in that segment over the next 20 years, suggesting room for three or four manufacturers. Embraer, the world's third-biggest planemaker, currently dominates the regional jet market for aircraft carrying fewer than 150 passengers.
