KBI Raids Stores in Statewide Marijuana Enforcement Operation
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation executed search warrants at vape shops and CBD dispensaries across the state Wednesday, seizing marijuana products, THC vape cartridges, and other items with illegal concentrations of THC. Attorney General Kris Kobach and KBI Director Tony Mattivi announced the ongoing operation, with some seizures also including weapons and currency. Officials said the substances are widely accessible and some Kansans mistakenly believe they are safe and legal. Case findings will be submitted to local prosecutors for possible charges including unlawful distribution of controlled substances.

Kansas Soybean Farmers Face Financial Crisis as China Halts Purchases
Kansas farmers are struggling with soybean tariffs as China, the nation's largest soybean buyer, has not purchased American soybeans since May. Sumner County farmer James Moreland said China's 60% share of the world's soybean market leaves a massive gap that can't be filled, forcing farmers to grow soybeans at a deficit despite record-high input and land costs. President Trump announced Wednesday on Truth Social that he plans to use a small portion of tariff revenue to assist farmers.

First Freeze Dates Approaching Across Kansas
Kansas is entering the period when the first fall freeze typically occurs, with median freeze dates in October for most of the state, though far western and northwestern areas often see freezes in late September. There is a 60% or greater chance the first freeze will occur by the end of October at all Kansas locations, with probabilities higher for earlier dates in the western and northern parts of the state. Northwest Kansas locations like Oberlin typically see their first freeze around October 3, while southeastern areas like Wichita average around October 28. The outlook for the next two weeks favors above-normal temperatures, making an early September freeze unlikely.

Kansas High Schools Launch Girls' Flag Football Programs
High schools in Wichita and Maize have introduced girls' flag football this fall with support from the Kansas City Chiefs' flag football initiative, which provided equipment, jerseys, and funding for coaches and officials. The new Wichita league includes seven Wichita high schools plus Maize High and Maize South, with similar programs expanding in the Kansas City area. While the Kansas State High School Activities Association has not yet sanctioned it as a full varsity sport, this year's pilot program could pave the way for official recognition. Flag football is one of the fastest-growing youth sports nationally and will make its Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 2028.
